ESG FOCUS AREA
Through our best-in-class baseline specification and our efforts towards driving sustainable value creation, we endeavour to align our efforts to developing and maintaining our buildings to EDGE certifiable standard.

Our Photovoltaic power plant converts the energy of the sun into electricity.

The output of energy the solar system is producing in the form of electricity (as of 2018-09-20).
Our CO2 emissions offset can be translated into the number of trees saved (as of 2018-09-20).
EDGE is a globally recognised certification aimed at increasing energy, water and materials efficiency in the South African building sector. We are committed to certifying as many of our new industrial facilities as possible using the EDGE rating tool.
Certification requires achieving a minimum saving of 20% in all three categories – operational energy, water usage and the embodied energy of building materials. This means that sustainable design, procurement and construction processes are embedded in each project. In addition to being environmentally conscious, these buildings would have the added benefit of being more desirable and affordable for our tenants, thereby leading to long-term savings.
Through our various sustainable property development initiatives, we aim to develop assets that immediately address our current environmental concerns while also meeting the growing sustainability requirements of our tenants.
By ensuring that our buildings continually meet these sustainability standards and accreditations, we deploy capital in an environmentally responsible manner which brings positive changes in the short, medium and long term for our stakeholders. This ensures that we remain relevant and promote environmental preservation to make our portfolio more sustainable.
Our developments in progress are being constructed to a similar standard and we are confident that all building will achieve final EDGE accreditation once construction is complete.
Our baseline specification has features that enable the tenant to maximize space usage, whilst simultaneously minimizing their harmful impact on the environment.

In support of our commitment to creating sustainable spaces, we are in the process of performing sustainability audits on all our existing properties. Based on the outcome of these audits, we will look to implement sustainability initiatives based on their condition, with great focus on energy efficiency.
