Student VAC Programme
Investing in the next generation
Our week-long Student VAC Programme is geared towards young South African students working towards or with an interest in a profession in the built environment. It gives participants a practical, task-orientated glimpse into what working at a market-leading REIT entails and how the various departments operate.
The programme gives students insight into the various departments of a property business and potential career paths available to them.
Throughout the week, sessions are held with various Equites team members to share their knowledge and expertise and provide exercises for the students to obtain a better understanding.
We follow a structured timetable to ensure that each participant is exposed to every aspect of a REIT business, including:
Maximising the value and income potential of our logistics facilities.
Identifying new opportunities and growing the organisation’s portfolio.
Minimising our environmental impact, and supporting local communities.
Understanding lease agreements.
Constructing best-in-class logistics facilities.
Understanding financial metrics, securing funding, property valuations, REIT requirements and B-BBEE compliance.
Efficiently maintaining our properties, ensuring low maintenance, high tenant satisfaction and optimal operations.
Each day’s activities run over the duration of a full business day, from 08:00 – 17:00, and include a number of one to one-and-a-half hour sessions, wrapping up with an hour to two-hour slot for students to work on their development project.
We are excited to announce that applications for Equites’ 2024 Student VAC Programme in Cape Town are officially open. Please note that applications close on 10 July 2024.
Participants have the chance to gain real-life exposure in office and on site, and to learn directly from the best in the business, including senior personnel and our CEO, Andrea Taverna-Turisan. This gives participants a way to step into their careers with more certainty and allows them access to a reliable network.
If you are a student that resides in South Africa, studying towards a qualification in the built environment or with an interest in this industry, you may apply. The programme is best suited to final-year or post-graduate students.
Applications must be done on our website via this web page, when applications are open.
We select eight participants per programme to ensure that each participant gains maximum exposure.
We currently host the programme twice a year – once in Johannesburg and once in Cape Town.
We usually notify students two weeks after applications close.
We recommend that you confirm with your lecturer or course convenor if the programme will be accepted towards any practical experience required. You will receive a certificate of attendance and will be able to note your participation on your CV.
No, you will not receive compensation for completing the programme. We do, however, provide you with breakfast, lunch and refreshments during the day, as well as transport to sites.
